Paint Party Friday Yep Yep Yellow!
I want to thank all of you for your helpful suggestions last Friday. That's what makes this group so fun! I really liked Faye's suggestion about using a lighter "mottled" orange. I'm not sure but is that where you use a sponge and dab the paint in? That would be really cool ! And I really liked Elisa's suggestion about making the lines blue and white like a water effect. I loved the symbolism behind that idea and I almost tried it but I was afraid the blue tail would get lost. ( It got me thinking about a whole other painting idea though, so thank you Elisa! ) And Rushmore, you are so sweet for worrying ( right along with me,lol) about what to suggest like it was your own painting! We are too much alike my friend! ( I love how your blog profile says Chief Salamander Catcher!). I probably should have listened to those of you who said to print out a copy to try backgrounds on, but our printer is out of ink and I didn't want to go out so I dived in with the yellow paint! Yes I can see how the yellow in the lizard is getting lost because of it, but I was thinking I could put more detail into the yellow in the lizard ( like scales or lines ) to bring that back out more. Or I could try "mottling the yellow in the background to make it different from the yellow in the lizard. I still would like to get a little blue in too! Would it be too much to sponge in blue water effects lightly in the yellow? What do you think? Maybe I can get some ink this weekend and try the printer this time! Happy PPF everyone!

Your little blue tail is coming along beautifully. I can only be so helpful to say that i find ALL the suggestions good - groan! Whatever, he is gorgeous! Valerie
ReplyDeleteValeria ~ thanks for sharing the suggestions ~ painting is coming along ~ I would get the ink and print out copies to explore and play with ~ thus 'getting out of the head' and more into 'trusting yourself' and feeling what painting needs ~ HPPF ~ Carol (Share the Creative Journey) thanks, namaste.
ReplyDeleteThe lizard is awesome! I like the idea of adding a little water effect, as if he is enjoying some much-needed moisture which just started flowing over the dry earth.
ReplyDeleteI love it!!! The color is perfect. Your skink is fantastic. The background resembles the hot, parched clay soil of the west. Faye
ReplyDeleteSo fun following your process on this li'l lizard, I think he looks awesome!

fantastic! not quite finished yet from what I can read!
ReplyDeleteThank you for sharing the suggestions and the whole process, he looks wonderful already. Happy PPF, xx
ReplyDeleteWhat a cool little lizard! And the background is beautiful, lots of detail. COngrats on winning that giveaway!
ReplyDeleteDeb, I love the painting and really, I think whatever you do will be fantastic! You are an amazing artist!!!
ReplyDeleteI think you do need a little blue somewhere for balance. I am loving it.....
ReplyDeleteYes, I'd try mottling the yellow lines, and maybe a small splash of blue in a top corner?
ReplyDeleteI like the idea of adding blue touches somewhere else in the painting besides the tail. Other than that, I love watching the progress on this painting!
ReplyDeleteHey Deb thanks for mentioning about my suggestion. I almost did not think that the tail is already blue and therefore the colors along the path shouldn't have been blue, sorry about that. But looking now at your almost finished piece.. I was thinking that since the complimentary color of yellow is violet.. you can either: Color the path violet instead of yellow to bring out the lizard better OR perhaps dot in some purple shades or dots along the path. Your lizard is already great and I cannot think of anything else to change it:) Hope that helps. Have a great day creating! Harmonythoughts
ReplyDeleteI like it ! adding a little bit of blue sounds intriguing
ReplyDeletegood luck ...its so good !
I like the yellow!!!
ReplyDeleteI think printing it out and playing first is a great idea. the blue might work but it would be sad if it didn't cos this is a nice painting and I have enjoyed its progress
ReplyDeleteYour painting is awesome! If you want, maybe you could add some more oranges and reds to the background, then add a cool hued shadow under him to ground him. Then I think you'd be done. Happy PPF! :-)
ReplyDeleteIt´s coming in a fab way, so lively.
ReplyDeleteWow! At last we have seen it done. You have been great. I like it.
ReplyDeleteThose were all great suggestions. :) The yellow turned out great but I can see the yellow in the lizard disapearing a little as well. Maybe you should try to add red to the lizard. I think it would bring it a bit forward. I'm so excited now to see what you decide. :)
ReplyDeleteHe looks beautiful! & if you think about it a lot of lizards blend in with their backgrounds. I love art where from far away it looks one way & close up you see something else entirely. I love the clay look of the background. Happy PPf!
ReplyDeleteI agree with Theresa, a lizard does blend in with his background so this is perfect.
ReplyDeleteI actually think it is wonderful just the way it is... A bit of camouflage, but the blue tail draws you in... Fantastic!

Love that so many contributed to your work in progress! Yes I guess detail in the yellow of the lizard would do it! Patsy from

Hi Deb! Thank you for checking out my new blog :) I like the the color choices here. The yellow does look great in the lines and I really the texture you've given to the orange in the background. It creates depth. This is a beautiful work of art. (I just love skinks too :)
ReplyDeleteI love the blue in this piece! Looks beautiful!
ReplyDeleteBeautiful Lizard work! You should check out Collared Lizards! I saw one in PaloDura Canyon here in West, Texas last weekend on a hike. BEAUTIFUL speckled BLUE and would make a great companion to this wonderful work you have been sharing! Happy PPF!
ReplyDeleteSO beautiful. I don't think your yellow stripes are getting lost at all. The mix of subtle colors in the background are dee-lish. Solidarity in worrying waay too much about a piece, sister!
ReplyDeleteI don't think his yellow is getting lost. It looks great to me!
ReplyDeleteoh this is looking amazing!!! love his blue tail....wonderful work as always!!!
ReplyDeleteIsn't nice to get such wonderful suggestions from other artists! Sometimes their eyes just see something a bit different. I love what you have started. Loving the blue tail!! Happy PPF!
ReplyDeleteI think he's looking fantastic but if you're worried, have you thought of when you add in his shadow, it may make him pop off the background and not be lost? That may just be enough. But I think I'd opt for biting the bullet and buying ink to try it first since you've worked so hard on this little guy and he looks so pretty.
ReplyDeleteLove the painting - thanks so much for visiting my blog!
ReplyDeletebeautiful!
