I'm so excited I have to share with you all a pic of the wonderful goodies I got in the mail this week from Dana at Sinderella Studios. I won her giveaway a couple of PPFs ago ! The prize was the book Taking Flight by Kelly Rae Roberts (which is wonderful by the way!) but Dana even threw in 3 of her beautiful note cards and an adorable tag! Thank you Dana for such a generous giveaway and for picking my name! You are a sweetheart and very talented!
Ok, its back to the ole skink tease. I told you it takes me forever to finish a large watercolor! This is where I need your help too. I'm not sure what to do in the white areas. I kind of want to just do a gentle yellow stripe and maybe outline with blue like the tail. But the detail fanatic in me wants to go crazy and do wild zentangle stuff there too or southwest designs. I still need to put darker detail in the tail and darker outlines everywhere for more contrast. What do you think? Happy PPF everyone!
I would probably not be the best one to listen to this instant. When it comes to imagination, I always go with from the heart and wild!
ReplyDeleteI think it is just lovely in this style! Valerie
ReplyDeleteI actually like the white but the idea of a gentle yellow and a blue outline works for me. I love the lizard and wouldn't want to take anything away from him! So happy your liked your package!
ReplyDeletecheers, dana
Always always do the wild zentangle stuff. Need I say more? Never ever hold back.
ReplyDeleteCongratulations on your winning such a fab prize. Loving the way you are going with your painting. Happy PPF, Annette x
ReplyDeleteCongrats on winning great prizes ~ Trust yourself ~ you will know what to do to continue the painting ~ answer lies within you ~thanks, namaste, Carol (Share the Creative Journey) and Happy PPF ^_^
ReplyDeletecan't wait to see how you finish it! And what a great gift from Dana!
ReplyDeleteI kinda like the white spaces..it is looking wonderful ! I like the southwestern feel. blue and yellow lines may be kinda cool too...you know best !

Your prize is fantastic! Lucky you! As for the skink, I feel if you put too much detail in the white spaces you will lose the focus of the beautiful lizard you have worked so hard on. I think I'd take the same orange as the background and make it just a tad lighter and fill in with some mottled lighter orange colors. Just an idea. Play with it on a copy you've printed out to see what looks best. Who knows (certainly I'm no expert) but zentangle may work out fine in the final analysis.

I like the idea of the yellow stripe and a bit of blue, that would tie it all together really well.
ReplyDeleteI would just start slowly, and add very light yellow or orange in the white spaces... if you don't like it then add something more detailed. That's what I love about watercolors, that you can always build on them. In the end, follow your gut instinct :) You're doing beautifully so far!
ReplyDeleteOh how exciting to win so many goodies!!!! and I love your new painting for PPF!!! you are so talented!!!!
ReplyDeleteCongrats on the win...that's an awesome haul! Your painting is progressing along great! If it were me I would keep the white spaces light so they don't pop off the page and distract from the main guy on the page...I'm sure you'll come up with a beautiful solution! :) POP ART MINIS
ReplyDeleteLove your design and color!!!
ReplyDeleteCongrats on winning! I think whatever you do it will be awesome!
ReplyDeleteFrist off congrats on the great prize.
ReplyDeleteIf I was painting this I would probably go with my gut feeling that I want to do the zentangle stuff; if I didn't, I would surely know it would keep me wondering ...what if? I think Megan is right start out with colour and if still not sure add the tatoos : )
Wow, you won some beautiful stuff Deb! Good for you! For your painting, I would love to see some southwest design in it ;o) Hugs!
ReplyDeleteEnjoy your new goodies! I´m always the cautious one, so I´d do as Megan says. Start slow and build up.
ReplyDeleteYou will know what to do. :D
What ever you do keep the focus on the lizard!
ReplyDeleteBig Congrats on the great prize!!! I vote to go with your gut and do the zentangle :)
ReplyDeleteCongrats on your win! Can't wait to see which direction you choose.
ReplyDeletegreat work Deb.. and congrats on the goodies.. lovely! My first instinct was to just paint the white narrow parts in blue with some white much like water flowing through.. it's weird but that's what i think initially. I look forward to your finish piece! ReplyDeleteCongratulations on all of your goodies - Dana is a sweetheart... a very kind and generous soul :)
ReplyDeleteI'm excited to see the progression of your painting (Why not print out a small version and "test" your theories on a smaller scale to see what you think looks best?)
Can't wait to see what you decide...
xo
Kristin
Grats on your awesome win- I'm so happy for you!
ReplyDeleteI am loving your painting and I really kind of like, no- LOVE the white spaces, I really wouldn't do a thing to them!
Happy PPF,
Stephanie
Kelly's book is one of my favorites. :) Loving your painting. I don't know if I'll be much of a help to you but I kinda think you shouldn't make it too busy. The lizard might get lost in it. :)
ReplyDeleteI'm actually fascinated by skinks! Saw my first one on a hike this year.
ReplyDeleteLove the way you've painted yours. The blue tail is wonderful and the background pattern complements it perfectly!
Best,
Mary C. Nasser
I say go with your gut. You have done a fantastic job already so it will only get better.
ReplyDeleteHPPF
I so LOVE this watercolor, can't wait until he's (or she) is complete (looks kinda perfect already)! Thx for including me and the visit. Happy PPF!
ReplyDeletehello
ReplyDeleteawesome prize winning for you! yea
Your lizard is wonderful. i enjoyed reading peoples suggestions, it will be fun to see what you do with it.
Congratulations on this magnificent gift. I like the salamander as it is now, but surely you'll make the right decision.
ReplyDeleteoooh, you're so lucky, I wanted that book! I struggle with making enough contrast so I have no good advice! But it looks good so far, whichever way you go!
ReplyDeleteI love Kelly's book too! And I think a black and white zentangle would look amazing in the white spaces!
ReplyDeletei actually really like the white in the background. i'm not sure i'd put too more detail in the background in case it takes away from your wonderful gecko!
ReplyDeleteI love the gecko as he is and the white is working for me... great win... :)
ReplyDeleteI think i life it as it is. I think you need the white or like you said a very pake yellow. Anyway you do it will be wonderful!!!
ReplyDeleteLove your painting. The colors are fantastic! Congrats on your win, lots of goodies there, and that's a great book, I have a copy too!
ReplyDeleteLooking good! I'd keep it simple so the skink doesn't get lost. Maybe wash a light yellow or amber color over it just to knock the white back a little. I really like the pattern of the background as it is now.
ReplyDeleteVery nice win! I would never want to advise someone on their art piece. I think you need to go with your heart... Personally I do like things outlined in a darker color that's just me though for my own art! Can't wait to see what you come up with!!
ReplyDeleteHugs Giggles
I think a simple darker or light blue for the white area will highlight more of the beautiful design of your little creature. Just a thought! ;)
ReplyDeleteCongrats on your win. I enjoy reading and practicing from that book. I think your piece looks great already. Happy PPF!
ReplyDeleteI was starting to get all anxious about your question, as if this was MY labor of love and I was about to mess it up by doing the "wrong" thing in the background. (hello???? can you say obsessive worrier????). So much wise advice above, and I'm loving Kristin's suggestion about printing out a practice version. I need to remember to do this for myself when I'm paralyzed. Ok, so I realize this isn't a helpful comment AT ALL, but I sure do love your skink.
ReplyDeleteMy first sponatneous thought was that the white are cracks where some creeping thyme grows... Hm. The KRR book is a great one, it really got me going when I read it about 18 months ago. But this would take up too much space here...
ReplyDeleteCongrats on winning such lovely things...and your skink is looking fabulous
